Allen S. Rose founded this city in 1875, although he called in Churchill. It was later renamed after him, which is how it got its current name. Allen Rose was originally located in New York City but he moved to Michigan. In 1892 when the railroad started to go through the town, it changed many things. It also would lead to the city being incorporated in 1905.
Most people here hold factory jobs, mainly in the plastics, machinery and auto part fields, but there is still a good percentage of people that work at the small shops throughout the city. The general age of people here is 44.6 and the number of people in the area is around 653.
An amazing area of wilderness with 4,449 acres is located a mere three miles from the city! It is a large, beautiful recreational area. It used to be privately owned, but it was snatched up and thankfully made available to everyone. This is a great area for nature loving activities. You can do things like cross-country skiing, fishing, boating, hunting, swimming, canoeing and hiking.
Just imagine taking your family down this beautiful river. Watching the fish swim beneath your boat. You could take a relaxing canoeing trip or just boat down the river without all the stress of daily life.
