The Basics Of Moonbow Photography

By Bernice Terry

The moonbow is said to be one of the rarest and most astounding sights that the heavenly bodies would have to offer because of its beauty and rarity. Because of this rare occurrence, a lot of photographers would want to capture a photo of this great event. Now in order to be successful in moonbow photography, there are definitely some important things to take note of.

Now the first thing to take note of is when the occurrence would actually appear. Now if one would want to catch it, he has to make sure to monitor the moon for its actions. Usually, moon rainbows will appear when there is a very bright and full moon and when the moon is very low in the night sky.

Now if one would want to shoot a good picture of the lunar bow, then he would have to get a really good angle. Now in order to get a good angle, one must stand on the top of a waterfall or a cliff so that he will be in an elevated position. Also, he must always follow the direction of the moon with his camera so that he will capture the bow when it comes out right away.

After doing some preparations on how to get the lunar bow, then the next thing to do would be to gather all of the equipment. Now one thing that the photographer should never do would be to bring out the flash. The flash may be useful in making the picture brighter but it will also destroy the light of the moonbow and will not show in the picture.

Now as for the equipment, obviously one will be needing to bring his camera. One other thing that he must never forget to bring would be his tripod because he will be waiting a very long time for the bow to appear. He will need to keep the camera still because if the camera is shaky, then he will not be able to capture the lunar bow nicely.

Now one thing that the photographer must definitely watch out for would definitely be the fog and the mist since he will be atop a rock or somewhere near a waterfall. Because of the mist, the lens of the camera might become blurred which will affect the picture. So always bring something that will block off the mist.

Now something that is very useful for this kind of endeavor would be a wide angle lens. This wide angle lens is known to capture a wide area of scenery because of its wide size. Since the photographer will not know where the moon rainbow will pop out, it is best he aim for the whole place.

So if one is interested in doing some moonbow photography, then here are a few very useful tips. In order to capture this very rare occurrence, one must do his homework about where and how to find it. Also, one must need to pay close attention to details so that he can be able to capture it on film.
